Russia unveiled the Buran in 1988, which is “essentially a knock-off of the Space Shuttle, eventually intended to attack the U.S. from space.” This was built as a reaction to NASA’s Space Shuttle program “and an attempt to gain an edge in space against the backdrop of Ronald Reagan’s ‘Star Wars’ Strategic Defense Initiative.” Video after the break.
