Being a real world superhero doesn’t necessarily need to include super powers, but you do need extreme courage to be a vigilante tackling criminals on the streets, without super strength, etc. We’ve rounded up five real world superheroes that actually exist. Continue reading to see more.

5. Phantom Zero

Phantom Zero’s journey began in a densely populated, highly urbanized town across the river from New York City. There he went on regular patrols, and came to realize that the local police were doing a fine job of keeping the neighborhood safe. His focus then shifted upon moving to a smaller town in Central New Jersey, and he now devotes most of his energies to working one-on-one, helping often random people through their personal crises, steering them toward resources or organizations to further them along their journeys.

4. Dark Guardian

The Dark Guardian Patrols the streets of New York, sometimes teaming up with other Real-Life Superheroes. “I am the Dark Guardian and I have been dubbed, what the media calls a Real Life Superhero. I am here to show the world there are people that care to make a difference, people that will stand against what is wrong in our society, stand up to the bad guys, help those in need, and change the world for the better. I use the iconic essence of comic book superheroes to make a difference, inspire others, spread a positive message, and call attention to issues in my community.

3. Mr. Extreme

f doing good starts with the willingness to try, Mr. Xtreme, a Real Life Superhero on the ground in San Diego, California, was born willing. Extremely so. From his formidable body armor (“It’s kind of a hodgepodge”), to his daunting pinhole goggles (“It definitely takes some adjusting to,” he admits), everything about him is extreme. Like his belief in the power of the individual. His engaging at every level in the affairs and well-being of his community. Or his passion for preventing violent crime – and easing the suffering of its victims.

2. Knight Warrior

By day he is a mild-mannered gardener – but when night falls, Roger Hayhurst turns into crime-fighting superhero Knight Warrior. The 19-year-old has spent the past ten months walking the streets of Salford, Greater Manchester, as his alter-ego, breaking up fights and tackling anti-social behaviour. Roger – who dresses in a custom-made $312 blue-and-black lycra costume which his mum helped him buy from a firm in America – says his only special power is a supernatural desire to make the world a better place.

1. The Shadow Hare

A self-proclaimed superhero has taken to the streets of Cincinnati. His bizarre costume may be home-made and he may not be able to leap over tall buildings in a single bound, but ‘Shadow Hare’ has warned criminals ‘they have nowhere to hide’. At just 5ft 7ins tall and weighing in at about 10 stone, the mystery crime fighter won’t have many law-breakers quaking in their boots. Which perhaps explains why Shadow Hare arms himself with handcuffs, a taser and pepper spray – all legal in the city – as he patrols the streets.
