When talking about vending machines, junk food and soda usually come to mind. That isn’t the case with these five weird examples, which dispense anything from bananas to eggs. Continue reading to see them all.
1. Banana Vending Machine
Dole invades Japan with not only bananas, but a vending machine to dispense them. They’re located inside subway stations across the country, and are priced as follows: “Y130 (appx. $1.50 USD) a piece or Y390 (appx. $4.50) for a bunch.” The video above shows exactly how convenient these machines really are.
2. Marijuana Vending Machine
Sure, it’s medical marijuana, but this vending machine is definitely one of the weirdest we’ve ever seen. According to its manufacturer, “patients suffering from chronic pain, loss of appetite and other ailments that marijuana is said to alleviate can get their pot with a dose of convenience at the Herbal Nutrition Center, where a large machine will dole out the drug around the clock.”
3. Freestyle Coca-Cola Machine
How about a Coca-Cola machine that’s capable of dispensing 100 different flavors? That’s exactly what you’ll get with the Freestyle. Simply put as possible, “there are traditional sodas, flavored waters, carbonated or noncarbonated beverages, energy drinks and so on. Even flavors not currently available in the United States.”
4. Eggs Vending Machine
Yes, you can also buy eggs from a vending machine, or at least in Japan. Flickr user JoshBerglund19 says that each small slot in this machine is filled with a small bag containing 10-12 eggs — machine is refilled daily by a local farmer.
5. Gold Vending Machine
Anyone who just happens to be at Frankfurt Airport in Germany can pick up gold bars direct from a vending machine. Called the TG-Gold-Super-Markt, it’s “filled with gold bars of one, five and 10 grams, starting at 31 euros ($A54) for the smallest chunk, which the marketers say is 20 per cent cheaper than buying gold at a bank.”
