IXION’s futuristic jet has no windows, as it uses external cameras to capture a full 360° panoramic view of the exterior of the plane, which is then adjusted for perspective and displayed on the cabin’s display panels. In addition to the cool factor, the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) says the lighter design is more practical since every 1% reduction in weight reduces fuel by 0.75%, saving money and reducing CO2 emissions. This projection system gives passengers the illusion of transparency. However, the displays can also be customized to show any other image or animated wallpaper you so chose, like space or the Death Star. Dr. Jon Helliwell, director of printable electronics at CPI, said that this concept could become a reality within 10-years.
