Gamers just got a first look at Metroid Dread, a direct sequel to 2002’s Metroid Fusion game that concludes the five-part saga focusing on the strange, interconnected fates of bounty hunter Samus and the Metroids, direct from E3 2021. Set for release October 8, 2021 on the Nintendo Switch, players guide Samus Aran as she explores the planet ZDR while evading an impervious robotic enemy, E.M.M.I., using new camouflage power. Some new moves include dives and wall climbing, along with several; returning additions from Metroid: Samus Returns, like counters. The story begins after Samus wipes out the lethal X parasite along with planet SR388, and the Galactic Federation receives a video transmission from an unknown source indicating that the X still alive. A special unit of seven E.M.M.I. robots is dispatched to the remote planet ZDR, believed to be the source of the transmission, before the unit suddenly vanishes. Samus journeys to ZDR to investigate.
