Meet Naki’o, the first dog to be fitted with four prosthetic paws. Naki’o was found alone in a foreclosed Nebraska, frozen into a puddle of icy water in the cellar. Despite being taken to an animal rescue center immediately, his paws healed were lost and became rounded stumps. Fortunately, veterinarian assistant Christie Pace of Colorado Springs, Colorado adopted Naki’o when he was 8-weeks-old and then came across a company who offered to fit Naki’o with prosthetic paws free of charge. Naki’o is officially the first dog to be fitted with a complete set of bionic paws that work naturally to allow him to run, jump, and swim. After just having them on for a few days, he was running and bounding along. These specially-built prosthetics are designed to mimic the muscle and bone of dog limbs, allowing them to do everything a normal dog would do.
