Nintendo Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Direct
Nintendo just released the first official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during a brief Direct on November 12, 2025. Fans have been waiting more than two years since the Super Mario Bros. Movie broke box office records, and this sequel promises to deliver the cosmic adventure they’ve been dreaming for. It’s being directed by Aaron Horvath as well as Michael Jelenic, and will be released in theaters in the United States on April 3, 2026.

Shigeru Miyamoto kicked things off and handed it over to Illumination’s Chris Meledandri who showed off plenty of new characters joining the gang. Chris Pratt is back as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Jack Black as Bowser and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. Two new faces steal the show: Brie Larson as Rosalina, the cosmic guardian and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.

Larson is perfect as Rosalina given her space experience and her love of Nintendo games. Safdie, who directed intense films like Uncut Gems and acted in Oppenheimer, brings an unexpected edge to Bowser’s mischievous son. Jack Black even crashed the presentation to introduce Safdie, keeping things lively.

The trailer picks up right where the first movie left off. Bowser is still mini from that Mini Mushroom mishap and is locked in a cage as Mario and Luigi’s prisoner. Jack Black’s Bowser tries to be creative, paints a portrait of Peach – only for Mario to call it trash. Bowser snaps back with threats and then admits he still has anger issues and needs his sleep to not turn into a monster. Moments like these make Bowser relatable and funny even when he’s losing.

Bowser Jr. bursts in to rescue his dad and declares Princess Rosalina will come with him too. With his magic paintbrush from Super Mario Sunshine he coats himself in metal and swings it like a flail. His design is a mix of classic and robotic with a bandana and metallic gloves. Safdie’s voice gives him a sharp determined tone, he’s a kid out to prove himself.

Before long, the action picks up and we’re transported to the heavens, where shooting stars light up the sky as the Mushroom Kingdom is thrown into a Star Festival – and everyone is drawn into space via these glowing portals, including Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Toad. They blast off to numerous planets that are essentially rebuilt versions of their previous games – a water world full of Bloopers and a desert planet with inverted pyramids a la Super Mario Odyssey – and ride off on bikes at dizzying speeds.

Just when you think the action is beginning to slow down, in swoops Rosalina – gallantly facing battle against an enormous spider-robot monstrosity dubbed Megaleg – she breaks it to bits with her wand and star magic in about two seconds flat and moves with a quiet, massive power.
