Sony has officially unveiled its first gaming monitor bearing the PlayStation logo, and its main promise is fairly simple: transform any old desk into a true PS5 station. This 27-inch screen has a very basic specification: 2560 x 1440 resolution and an IPS display to keep the colors looking sharp even when seen from the side. Not quite cutting-edge, but Sony has been generous with the thoughtful PlayStation features they’ve included.
With the monitor connected to a PS5 or PS5 Pro, games will run at up to 120 Hz, complete with variable refresh rate support that prevents screen tearing from hurting your gaming experience in titles that allow it. And if you connect it to a compatible PC or Mac, guess what? You get to run the 240Hz panel. Sony has also included a feature called Auto HDR Tone Mapping. Plug in a PS5, and the console will instantly detect the monitor and update the HDR settings – no messing with the menus required.

The ports cover the most of the features; they’ve provided two HDMI 2.1 inputs for all of your consoles and secondary bits and bobs, as well as one DisplayPort 1.4 for laptops, allowing you to play at high frame rates with that fancy variable refresh rate business in all of them. Along the borders, you’ll find two USB-A ports, one USB-C port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a set of built-in speakers – nothing fancy, but adequate for a fast gaming session. And, hey, those USB ports also function as PlayStation Link accessory hubs, so you can plug in your wireless earphones or headphones and avoid dealing with a crummy old dongle.

There is a retractable hook beneath the stand that allows you to place a DualSense or DualSense Edge controller and charge it while it is parked. Sony is selling the hook separately, which is a little strange given that the monitor works perfectly without it. The screen’s VESA mount allows you to connect it to whichever arms or mounts you want if you want to get a little more sophisticated.

In terms of appearance, everything is very much in line with what you’d expect from PlayStation: lots of matte black plastic, a few modest blue accents, and a bit of the traditional PlayStation shape in the stand to add some visual appeal. Overall, the appearance complements your PS5 without detracting from the game action on the screen.

Availability is still sparse for now; Sony plans to release the monitor just in the United States and Japan next year, with no news on whether it will be available elsewhere. No price has been mentioned yet, and you’ll need to bring your own cables because they won’t be included in the box.
Keep in mind that details may change before the product is released; Sony included the standard “specifications subject to change” statement. But, at this moment, the feature set appears to be very solid: a bright 27-inch panel, excellent frame rates, a console-friendly HDR configuration, and a charging dock to keep your DualSense charged.
