Star Wash Wars Chile Lucasfilm Lawsuit
Star Wash, a Star Wars-themed car wash located on the outskirts of Santiago, Chile, is being sued by Disney-owned Lucasfilm for infringing on their intellectual property. One glaring issue, aside from the logo, is having workers wear Chewbacca, Stormtrooper, Mandalorian, and even Darth Vader costumes while washing vehicles.

The lawsuit came about when owner Matias Jara wanted to register his brand with Chilean patent authority INAPI. Fortunately, Lucasfilm only wanted to block the registration of the name and did not seem to have any issues with the attendants. Jara is fighting the lawsuit as he believes Star Wash is sufficiently different from the movie franchise to avoid confusion.

Of course this lawsuit is affecting us. We’re a small business and we’re spending on things we hadn’t budgeted for. We don’t make movies or sell their products or anything like that,” said Matias Jara, Star Wash Owner.
