Overall, we’d like to see the final unit to judge the Diamond and give it a rating. Design-wise it is great, although it has some flaws. The software is really promising, but Windows Mobile smartphones are known for their not-so-instant reactions.

HTC has just confirmed the specifications for its HTC Touch Diamond Smartphone. At 11.5mm thick, this handset features a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen, Qualcomm MSM7201A (528-MHz) processor, integrated accelerometer, 3.2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, HSDPA 7.2Mbps, 4GB of internal memory, 192MB SDRAM, and a microSD card slot. The Touch Diamond makes use of GPU accelerated procedural graphics, so you will not see a backward-compatible TouchFlow 3D update for the current Touch. It’s capable of doing 7-8mil polygons per second. HTC has made hiding WinMo away something of a priority; CMO John Wang stated, “You wouldn’t even know this device was Windows Mobile. You would just think it’s TouchFlow 3D.”

The company’s first ad in the campaign is posted to YouTube — no new products here, sadly, but it’s an encouraging sign to see that one of the world’s most prolific ODMs and smartphone manufacturers now thinks that the American market is mature enough to be dealt with directly

The HTC Shift is a sleek UMPC that features a 7-inch touchscreen display, 30GB HDD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, and Windows Vista. Video after the break.

..it has both Windows Vista and Pocket PC (PDA OS), but nobody wants to use anything but Windows Vista on this. Three hours seems pretty short for a portable device of this size, but we’re still looking forward to seeing what this can do in our own hands
