That’s right, scientists at the University of Manchester have discovered a planet that’s composed entirely of diamond. Scientifically speaking, “the diamond planet – the shrunken core of a once-huge star – is a chunk of crystallized carbon measuring 40,000 miles across, five times the diameter of Earth.” Video after the break.

Research team member Dr Michael Keith said: ‘This remnant is likely to be largely carbon and oxygen, because a star made of lighter elements like hydrogen and helium would be too big to fit the measured orbiting times.’ The density means that this material is certain to be crystalline, that is, a large part of the star may be similar to a diamond.

As many living on the east coast of the United States already know, there was a magnitude 5.9 earthquake that shook several areas today. On the bright side, “the Dow has recovered from its post-quake dip, and the New York Stock Exchanged never stopped trading.” Videos after the break.

The USGS also says this is the biggest quake to roll out of Virginia since 1897. That’s a long time ago! How would 19th century bloggers like me have found out about it in New York?
