Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) originally aired from January 3, 1993, to June 2, 1999, and served as the third sequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. It was set in the 24th century, when Earth is part of a United Federation of Planets, and based on the space station Deep Space Nine, which is located adjacent to a wormhole connecting Federation territory to the Gamma Quadrant on the far side of the Milky Way galaxy. One fan, CaptRobau, decided to remaster some clips from the series using AI Gigapixel’s neural networks to upscale them to 1080p. Read more to see the result and for additional information.

Anton Yelchin, known for his character Chekov in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek films, died in a freak accident early Sunday morning at the age of 27. “They went to his San Fernando Valley home at around 1AM and found him pinned between his car and a brick mailbox, which was attached to a security gate,” according to a report. Star Trek fans rejoice! Designer Dave Delisle has created a North Face shuttlecraft tent that may not be suited for intergalactic travel, but would be great for the outdoors. When set up, it can comfortable accommodate two people, and the design easily folds into a carrying case after a good night’s rest. “It’s not such a far-fetched idea. Star Trek V began with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy camping in the great outdoors,” said Delisle. Click here to view the first image in this week’s geek life gallery.
