Ok, so it’s not the moon you’re thinking of, but Saturn’s Mimas does bear a striking resemblance to the Death Star nonetheless. This photo was taken by Cassini “detailing the massive 88-MILE wide crater on the moon’s surface.”
The incredible Herschel Crater spans about one-third of the entire moon’s width…the images revealed the crater’s walls are three miles high and parts of the floor are six miles deep.
Artist Hubert de Lartigue found that he had an excess of subway tickets (30mm x 65mm) laying around, so he decided to turn them into X-Wing and Falcon ships. Click here for first picture in gallery.
One of them is help in the hand to emphasize the size. All this is done without using any extra paint. The strip on the ticket is cleverly used to make the ships look neat.
Aside from the giant AT-AT Walker, Hasbro also unveiled a remote-controlled Millennium Falcon at Toy Fair 2010. At $50, it measures 11 inches long by 8 inches wide and actually flys quite well, as you’ll see after the break. Availability has not yet been announced.
I don’t know about you, but the first thing I’d do is set up some crude household obstacle course for it, and then joke about how it can get through the Kitchen Run in 12 parsecs.
