China has developed a high-speed train — based on CSR’s CRH 380A –that can reach 311mph, without the use of MagLev technology. That’s right, “this train has been streamlined, uses lighter materials, and uses a lot more power in order to get over 300 mph.” Continue reading for more pictures.

The standard CRH380 has a maximum drawing power of 9600 kilowatts, while this souped-up version can draw as much as 22,800 kilowatts.

MIT student Stephan Boyer wanted an easier way to get around campus, without needing a bicycle or car, so he built a self-balancing unicycle, called “Bullet”. Unfortunately, “it only balances forward and backward, not side to side, which makes the experience a little more like riding a motorized bicycle with no hands.” Video after the break.

Nevertheless, if inventions that were mentioned as world-changing just a few years ago are now being replicated by university students, just think what other cool inventions we have to look forward to.

The MIG675 is unlike any other speed boat because it’s hydrogen-powered and can convert sea water directly into fuel. That’s right, “the hydrogen generator will power all of the electrical devices, which include a GPS, a 10-inch touchscreen controller, and an electric anchor roller; the boat has a 500 horsepower motor and is supposed to go up to 70 mph.” Videos after the break.

The boat itself is a 22-footer that weighs 2,866 lbs. The hull is made out of aluminum. There are more goodies, but you’ll have to spend $326,000 USD to find out for yourself.

Called Passing Cloud, this futuristic transportation system essentially consists of “a rigid stainless steel structure supporting an array of spherical nylon balloons that intersect to form a solid, if topologically diverse, platform suitable for passengers.” Click here to see more pictures.

There’s no “inside” of Passing Cloud; you just climb up some stairs on top of the balloons and chill there, watching the clouds and ground go by.

Parker Brothers has created the world’s first electric TRON lightcycle, and it features “a 96-volt electric motor, powered by a bunch of lithium-ion battery cells — the bike is able to hit a top speed over 100mph, and can go for about 100 miles per charge.” Video after the break.

Of course, it also features authentic TRON illumination with the flick of a switch. Parker Brothers says they are intent on making the bike street-legal, but it’s not designed for heavy duty use.
