Chemical ecologist Troy Alexander was recently away on a 3-month volunteer position for the Macaw Project, and while there, he stayed at one of the most remote Amazon Rainforest lodges in South America. It was at this place where he discovered “some kind of egg tower surrounded by a protective barrier (2 cm in diameter) that eerily resembles a white picket fence,” created by a mystery bug. Set to open soon at New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure, Zumanjaro Drop Of Doom stands 400-feet-tall and will be the world’s tallest free fall ride. It consists of three free fall drop attractions, with each mounted to a lateral flank of the Kingda Ka structure. All three towers feature a single floorless gondola seating eight-abreast. Before riding riders will queue along a new African baboon habitat. Riders are harnessed in by over-the-shoulder restraints. Catch cars hoist the gondolas up the tower before reaching a dynamic height of 415 feet (126 m). Unlike similar machines, this one actually deep fries them fresh in beef fat, rather than use re-heated frozen fries.
