Archpartners has unveiled what it claims are the official renderings of iPad, an iPod-inspired building that Omniyat Properties is planning to build in Dubai. What are your thoughts?

We’d just like to take this chance to remind Omniyat Properties to get it done fast — you’re up against a dude named Crazy John in the race to build the world’s largest monument to consumer electronics nerdom

A reader pointed us to this interesting auction of an original Apple II+ that sold for $1,414.87 on eBay. For that price, you could get yourself a nice high-end laptop or a few PS3s. Auction page. Video after the jump.

The Apple II was eventually superseded by the Apple II Plus, which included the Applesoft BASIC programming language in ROM. This Microsoft-authored dialect of BASIC, which was previously available as an upgrade, supported floating-point arithmetic (though it ran at a noticeably slower speed than Steve Wozniak’s Integer BASIC) and became the standard BASIC dialect on the Apple II series

In the mid-80’s, Hudson partnered with Nintendo to develop Super Mario Bros. Special for the NEC PC-88 / 8801. Unfortunately, this game was never released, until now and in ROM format. Download page. Video after the jump.

The game is *not* that insanely difficult Japanese Super Mario Brothers 2 that’s featured in Mario All Stars. Playing this game on a keyboard is like pulling teeth; you’ll find that Mario feels like he’s put on a few pounds with lethargic jumps and a few more oddities

According to Networkworld, 28-year old Todd Shriber (congressional aide) hired attempted to hire two hackers — Lyger and Jericho — to help boost his college GPA. We all know how this ended… Original email message below:

“I need to urgently make contact with a hacker that would be interested in doing a one-time job for me. The pay would be good. I’m not sure what exactly the job would entail with respect to computer jargon, but I can go into rough detail upon making contact with a candidate.” Shriber wanted Lyger and Jericho to break into the computer system at Texas Christian University, from which he graduated in 2000

You won’t need an expensive machine for this, just an egg, some vinegar, and a bowl. Over the course of two days, you’ll gradually see the egg’s calcium carbonate shell dissolve. For those who’ve tried this before, does it work? Video after the jump.

Vinegar is acetic acid, CH3COOH, which would dissolve the calium carbonate into calcium ions, and release carbon dioxide (that explains for the bubble at beginning of the clip)

File this under: ” Strange Cell Phones” At $310,000, the Vertu Signature “Cobra” is encrusted with “precious gemstones — one pear-cut diamond, one round white diamond two emerald eyes and 439 rubies.” Here’s what Paul of engadget has to say:

We can only take solace in the fact that only 8 of these Signature Cobra phones will be made by Vertu and its partner in crime, French jeweler Boucheron. There’s also a “cheap” version, the $115k Signature Python, which is due for a production run 26 strong, but if you’re actually going to spring for something this ridiculous, why not go all the way, right?
