When you first watch this video, the metallic beads seem to defy gravity, but in reality, it’s just a nifty physics trick. Simply put as possible, the “chain still in the beaker is being jerked upward to get out before it can fall down.” Continue reading to see more.
This demonstration is sometimes called Newton’s Beads. It’s an unexpected trick of physics, but the mechanics behind it are fairly simple. When the end of the chain is dropped from the container, it exerts upward force on the next section of the chain. At first the links slowly slither out, but as the fallen portion gets longer, it pulls more strongly and causes the chain to be pulled faster.
