Lanny Smoot, a Disney Research Fellow, unveils HoloTile, an omni-directional treadmill AR / VR applications. While you may have seen similar devices before, this one claims to support multiple users simultaneously.
More specifically, it’s touted as the ‘world’s first multi-person, omni-directional, modular, expandable, treadmill floor’. HoloTile enables any number of users to have a shared virtual reality (VR) experience, walk an unlimited distance in any direction, and never collide or walk off its surface. Or, you could place it in a theatrical stage to allow performers to move and dance in new ways, or just move stage props and structures stealthily.
