Disney Plus Marvel Zombies
Marvel Zombies, a four-episode animated series, debuts on Disney+ September 24, 2025 and is Marvel’s first TV-MA animated series. Based on the 2005 comic series by Robert Kirkman and the 5th episode of the first season of What If…?, this miniseries offers a new but familiar look at the most powerful heroes on Earth.

A zombified MCU starts with a premise from What If…?’s “What If… Zombies?!” episode where a virus from the Quantum Realm—unleashed by Janet van Dyne—turns Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Wanda Maximoff into flesh-eating corpses. Marvel Zombies picks up in this alternate timeline and follows a new generation of survivors trying to stop the outbreak. Expect to see familiar faces like Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) alongside heavy hitters like Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). The trailer shows a world where Spider-Man swings above zombie hordes, Thanos has a near complete Infinity Gauntlet and a new character, Blade Knight—a Moon Knight-Blade hybrid voiced by Todd Williams—slices through undead foes with precision.

The voice cast alone is enough to get you in. Marvel has assembled a cast that feels like an MCU reunion: Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Awkwafina’s Katy, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo, and Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams to name a few. Each actor reprises their live-action role, grounding the animated chaos in the emotional weight of their established characters. Todd Williams’ Blade Knight stands out not just for his sword-swinging skills but for being the first Blade variant in the MCU, not the one from the recent Deadpool & Wolverine cameo or the still in limbo solo film. Hudson Thames also returns as Spider-Man, with the same energy as What If…?.

Directed by Bryan Andrews and written by Zeb Wells, the team behind What If…?, Marvel Zombies blends comic book roots with cinematic flair. Andrews, who also showruns, said “hardcore” zombie sequences would go beyond the original episode’s violence. The trailer delivers on that promise with gory battles and a dark tone that earns its TV-MA rating. Wells’ script and Andrews’ direction make it a story about survival as much as spectacle. Executive producers Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito keep it true to Marvel’s ability to make emotional stakes in high-octane action and producers Danielle Costa and Carrie Wassenaar keep it tight across the four episodes.

Visually, Marvel Zombies is horror driven. The first poster with the twisted logo and skull imagery sets the tone, the trailer animation is Marvel’s style with gritty blood splattered detail. The zombie designs are grotesque but recognizable, Wanda Maximoff and Captain America look like zombies. The action scenes Spider-Man web slinging, Blade Knight swordplay pop with energy but it’s the quiet moments like survivors navigating a ruined world that show the series emotional depth.

As Marvel’s first TV-MA animated series it breaks free from the studio’s constraints and gives them a playground to tell darker stories. The September 24 release date moved up from October 3 means you won’t have to wait long to binge all 4 episodes. With horror, heart and MCU familiarity this is going to be a standout on Disney+. Whether you’re in for the returning cast, the zombie chaos or Blade finally carving his way into the MCU Marvel Zombies is going to be a wild ride.
