For those who don’t already know, Roborace is essentially an autonomous racing series set to run alongside the Formula E Championship. Automotive designer Matteo Gentile has unveiled the Lamborghini Spectro for the former, and it draws inspiration from other Roborace cars, and adds some Italian flair. Since the vehicle is able to drive itself, there’s no drivers seat, enabling the entire top to be chopped off, while open front / rear wheel arches keep it extremely aerodynamic. Water Seer appears to be an anemometer used to measure wind speed at first, but the device is actually planted 6-feet in the ground, while the top holds a vertical wind turbine, which spins internal fan blades to draw air into the subterranean chamber. Since the underground chamber is cooled by the surrounding earth, water condenses in the reservoir to create an artificial well, from which safe drinking water is produced around the clock. The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour is a $1-billion skyscraper that aims to be the world’s tallest when completed in 2020. Standing over 2,800-feet tall, it will emit a “beacon of light” from its peak at night, and at the very top will be an oval-shaped bud, housing ten observation decks, including The Pinnacle Room, which offers 360° views of the city. The design also includes a distinctive net of steel cable stays that attach to a central reinforced concrete column that will reach into the skies. “It is an absolute privilege to be entrusted by Santiago Calatrava and Emaar Properties to work on this project, and we have assembled a stellar team to bring this idea to life,” said Adrian Jones, Aurecon’s project director for The Tower. Following up on the original Hoonicorn, based on a 1965 Ford Mustang RTR powered by an 845 horsepower V8 engine, Ken Block reveals Hoonicorn V2. “We got approval for a new video concept using the Hoonicorn, but I needed more power for what I needed it to do. So, I developed the concept for the general idea of what I wanted – two turbos sticking out the hood – and handed that over to my team. They came back with a functional way to make that happen and added methanol to get the setup to produce the power that I wanted. We ended up with 1,400 horsepower!
