Epson PaperLab

How about a printer that can create new sheets of paper from unwanted documents? Meet Epson’s PaperLab. This innovative system is both a printing and paper-making machine, and here’s how it works: feed the machine waste paper, which it then tears apart and then ‘de-inks’ using a stream of high-powered air. The fibers reassembled into fresh sheets using liquid binders, and a pressure process forms individual sheets of paper into a custom size, thickness, and color, capable of producing 14 sheets of paper per minute. Here’s a fascinating look at carrion flowers, better known as corpse flowers, which emit an odor that smells like rotting flesh. This odor is used to attract scavenging flies and beetles as pollinators, but some species even trap the insects temporarily to ensure the gathering and transfer of pollen. Titan arum (above), which has the world’s largest flower head, presents an inflorescence or compound flower composed of a spadix or stalk of small and anatomically reduced male and female flowers, surrounded by a spathe that resembles a single giant petal. Longbranch Cabin

Jim Olson from Olson Kundig Architects unveils the newly renovated Longbranch Cabin in Puget Sound, Washington, which appears to have drawn inspiration from the famed LEGO bricks. The original structure was built in 1959, and during each of its four renovations, boxes were added to the original structure for expansion, building around trees instead of tearing them down.
