Stanford TranscribeGlass AR Smartglasses Closed Captioning
Stanford University students, led by Tom Pritsky, reveal TranscribeGlass, which is a pair of augmented reality smartglasses that provide real-time closed captioning for the hearing impaired. The goal is for this project to be source agnostic so it can be integrated with any API including Google Speech, Deepgram, Microsoft and more.


How does it work? The AR smartglasses basically receives messages over Bluetooth from the captioning device, and then converts those messages to projections. If the words are too small, the user can easily change the size of the text as necessary. This device can also help those in noisy environments like airports, train stations, classrooms, etc. So far, the company has sold 300 beta versions for $55 USD, but the production model should end up costing right around $95.
