Back in the new Challenger, I’m glad to have modern amenities like, say, air-conditioning. And despite its lack of personality relative to the original version, it serves as an elegant reminder of just how far automobiles have come in the last 40 years.

This is the first weekend that the production version of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 has hit the public road, and we figure there are a dozen of them prowling the streets of Los Angeles

All of the Challengers ordered will come in the SRT8 variant sporting a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 and a five-speed automatic transmission. Three colors are available – black, silver, and HEMI orange, the latter of which was the color of choice for more than half the orders. Deliveries will start in the Spring of 2008
