For one day only, Buy via eBay is selling the retail version of Halo 3: ODST for just $39.99 shipped, originally priced at $59.99. This standalone expansion “contains 1,750 new Xbox LIVE achievement points, as well as new weapons, technology and an invite to join the Halo: Reach beta in 2010.” Product page.

All-new campaign content. The “Halo 3: ODST” campaign is an intriguing side story that takes place during the terrifying events leading up to the Master Chief’s return to New Mombasa in “Halo 3.”

Unlike its predecessors, Halo 3: ODST, an Xbox 360-exclusive, has players taking on the role of United Nations Space Command soldiers known as Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, rather than the human supersoldier known as Master Chief. The main hero may be a bore, but the fiction is at least as interesting as it was in prior Halo games. Bungie’s done good this time. That’s a victory, even if that’s a departure from a series which has often seen Bungie do great.

Halo 3 Map

Assembly is the newest Halo 3 map, and it looks awesome to say the least. Unfortunately, Bungie has “no information on how or when Assembly will be made available.” Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

Formerly known as the infinitely more ear-pleasing “Purple Reign”, the map will be playable by Halo uber-fans at the Penny Arcade Expo this weekend.
