It was only a matter of time before an iOS 4.1 jailbreak surfaced, and Limera1n by Geohot has accomplishes just that. A few caveats: it “only works on Windows at the moment, hacks only official releases and iPhone 3GS isn’t supported right now, and it claims to be an unpatchable, untethered release for those of you who appreciate what those terms mean.” Video after the break.

The skilled team over at iFixit have already torn down the brand new 4th-generation iPod Touch, and they found that it only has 256MB of RAM (iPhone 4 has 512MB). One more caveat: “the battery is soldered to the logic board.” Continue reading for an unboxing video. Click here for more pictures.

Unfortunately, the rear-facing camera is only 960×720 resolution. That’s only about .7 megapixels, compared to 5 megapixels on the iPhone 4.

…while the back camera can record H.264 video at 720 lines of resolution (720p) and 30 frames per second, the resolution for photography is not as high as the iPhone 4. Just the same 960 x 720 pixels of the video.

Today is the big Apple event, but that hasn’t stopped accessory manufacturers from leaking case designs ahead of time. The following cases are supposedly for the 4th-generation iPod Touch, leading some to believe that it will have a 3.0MP – 5.0MP camera with flash. Continue reading for one more picture.

iLounge is also reporting that new iPod Touch device might be launched with microphone rather than a flash, along with a the bottom-mounted headphone port and Dock Connector port. LCD and digitizer are slightly smaller and different in color than the iPhone 4 front panel.

At first glance, the display above may look like the iPhone 4’s, but according to SmartPhoneMedic, it’s from a 4th-generation iPod Touch. This basically means that it will have an ultra sharp retina display, or so we hope. Video after the break.

A visual inspection reveals it to have the same fused design as on the iPhone 4, which naturally invites speculation that the retina display will be pulling some PMP duty as well.

A set of new 4th generation iPod Touch images have surfaced, and they apparently show a front-facing camera slot, which some say will be used for Apple’s FaceTime application. MacRumors reports that “Apple is widely expected to release new iPod Touch devices this fall.” Continue reading for one more picture.

While we’ve seen similar parts before, this part is clearly marked as an Apple part “Apple (c) 2010”. This stamp is visible in the full resolution image.
