Nintendo DS 2

Hirokazu Hamamura of Famitsu has predicted “that Nintendo will unveil the next-generation DS at E3 2008 this summer.” We’ll keep you updated as more information is released.

Normally we wouldn’t think anything of some businessman making predictions, but if anyone knows what’s going on with Nintendo, it’s Famitsu (the gaming industry and gaming press are really tight over there)

Professional 3D modeler Phil Nolan recently created the sleek Nintendo DS 2 mockup you see above, complete with dual widescreen displays. Click here for first picture in gallery.

For compatibility, you can play original DS games letterboxed. Even new games could retain exactly the same format and keep backward compatibility if you want. The top wide-screen, however, could be used very well in most games. But specially, for media playback

Though Nintendo hasn’t made an official announcement, this Nintendo DS 2 mockup by Jesus Diaz definitely looks very sleek. Click here for one more picture with lid closed.

Inside, the color should be black, getting back to the old-style Nintendo GameWatch two-color scheme but updated to 2008. On the top part, the new 3.5-inch widescreen-capable to display both games and movies played from the SD flash card- will maintain the quality of the current version but with a slightly higher resolution (480 x 272)
