10K Ultrawide Display

You can play Fortnite on your computer, game consoles, and even smartphone, but Linus may have created the ultimate 10K ultrawide gaming setup. Simply put, he connected nine 34″ LG Curved UltraWide displays to three NVIDIA Quadro GV100 GPUs with 32GB memory each, powered by an ASUS Rampage VI Extreme motherboard, 128GB of Vengeance DDR4 RAM, and Corsair’s AX1600i power supply. Whether it be racing or battle royale games, this setup can do it all. Click here to view the first image in today’s viral picture gallery. Awake Ravik Electric Surfboard

The Awake Ravik may not be the first electric surfboard, but this one can be wirelessly controled, and is constructed from a carbon fiber composite. When combined with a 11 kW brushless electric motor, you get a board capable of achieving a top speed of 35mph on the water in just 4-seconds. A fully charged battery will get you 40 minutes of ride time, while the 1″ display on the handheld controller shows just how much juice is left, along with the speed and selecting different rider modes. Happen to fall of your board? An automatic kill switch automatically engages, thanks to integrated sensors. Click here for the first image in today’s viral picture gallery. Centauro Rescue Robot

We have seen the future of rescue robots, and it’s the Centauro. Developed by Italy’s IIT-Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, this 5-foot-tall robot sports a four-legged design and anthropomorphic upper body that’s capable of operating for 2.5 hours. Weighing in at 200-pounds, it’s designed to maneuver over rugged terrain and carrying out tasks requiring high strength, enabling it to serve as an efficient disaster response robot. “Having seen the potential of the robot capabilities and versatility, our effort will be placed on the industrialization of the robot hardware and the further development of our software. This will incorporate effective human-robot interfaces, application specific software tools, and utilities to facilitate the robot control taking into account the end-user perspectives,” said project researcher Nikos Tsagarakis. Raytheon StormBreaker Smart Bomb

Raytheon announced this week that its StormBreaker smart bomb has entered operational testing phase, bringing it one step closer to providing the U.S. Air Force with the capability to strike maneuvering targets in adverse weather. It will be first fielded on the F-15E Strike Eagle, and is planned to be integrated onto the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter by 2022. This tri-mode seeker uses imaging infrared, millimeter wave and semi-active laser, giving pilots the ability to destroy moving targets on the battlefield in adverse weather conditions from standoff ranges. Flippy Burger Robot

Flippy, the robot capable of making over 1,000 burgers per day, has found a new job cooking fried chicken tenders and tater tots at Dodger Stadium starting in August. How does it work? Well, the robot can automatically detect the temperatures across the fryer, monitor the cooking process in real-time and also display the cooking time on a screen, while alerting stadium employees when each basket of chicken or tater tots is ready to be manually temperature-checked and served. Kano Programable Harry Potter Wand

Kano has partnered with Warner Bros. to release a Harry Potter Coding Kit, or in other words, a programmable wand that teaches you about coding. It includes a computer board with an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and programmable sensors, which enable users to do things like cast spells as well as explore coding challenges embedded within the included six Wizarding World settings. “This is not a carbon copy of anything in the series. There’s a small, secret group of wizards in our world who can move objects and who operate behind a veil of secrecy. They’re called programmers, and their powers are only given to a select few by design. But you can learn those powers and create your own magic,” said CEO and cofounder Alex Klein. The Ocean Cleanup

The Ocean Cleanup array, started by 23-year-old Boyan Slat, is closer to deploying its advanced technologies to rid the oceans of 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic junk in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. A gigantic floating tube, around 2,000 feet long, will serve as a U-shaped barrier to help trap plastic. This structure is flexible enough to bend with ocean waves and is made of HDPE plastic. The first piece of the system is as long as a football field and will be connected to the larger system following the local tow test, while the final test 200 miles offshore will occur after assembly is finished. Magnetic Shape Shifters

MIT engineers have created soft, magnetic 3-D-printed structures that can transform their shape almost instantaneously by the wave of a magnet, enabling them to crawl, roll, jump, as well as play catch. These innovative structures are flexible, yet strong and could one day be used to develop remotely controlled biomedical devices. “We think in biomedicine this technique will find promising applications. For example, we could put a structure around a blood vessel to control the pumping of blood, or use a magnet to guide a device through the GI tract to take images, extract tissue samples, clear a blockage, or deliver certain drugs to a specific location. You can design, simulate, and then just print to achieve various functions,” said Xuanhe Zhao, the Noyce Career Development Professor in MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
