According to Kotaku, this is a real picture of an actual Sony PSP2 prototype. In addition to the dual analog thumbsticks, this model boasts a PSPGo-style shell, touchscreen w/stylus, and a slot for PSP2 memory cards. Unfortunately, no other information has been provided, but we’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

The thumbsticks are in a different location from photos that appeared last fall of what is supposedly the PSP2.

Sony insider MCV reports that the company “has been telling ‘licensees’ – ie the people making games for it – that the PSP2 ‘is as powerful as the PlayStation 3’.” Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on what exactly will be powering this beast. Click here for more pictures.

The same report claims that while downloads will play a big part in the system’s game library, the PSP2 will also use physical media so that its games can be sold in retail stores.

Another day, another leaked PlayStation Phone video. This time, “showing one lucky hombre playing Resident Evil 2 and Rage Racer on the device.” That’s not all, it was also pitted against a Meizu M9 in a performance test. Videos after the break.

The hardware is apparently on the up and up, although the fact that the titles had to be loaded through ROM Buddy (a third-party Android app for running ROMs) suggests that the software is still being tinkered with.

According to VG247, this image is reportedly of a Sony PSP2 developer unit. Featuring an “HD screen, two cameras (front and rear), microphone, two thumbsticks, and a rear “trackpad” of sorts.”

VG247 later updated to say that a source claims it’s an earlier version of the kit and that a revision has since been developed without a sliding screen.

VentureBeat reports that “Sony says it is working on something [and] it will likely be a PSP phone that will address gamers who play casually and would not likely buy a dedicated, stand-alone video game device such as the PlayStation Portable.” Once a video is available, we’ll be sure to post it.

In a maddeningly vague pair of conference calls with analysts, Sony executives seemingly acknowledged last Friday that they were working on products that will address the “light gamer” segment of the mobile gaming market.

Despite Sony denying that the PlayStation Phone even exists, a few new pictures have surfaced showing “an 8GB microSD card slotted, and at least 512MB of internal storage.” Click here to see them all.

As you can see from the pictures in the gallery below, the device isn’t exactly thin — we surmise that the handset is around 17mm thick, or slightly thicker than HTC’s Touch Pro 2.

Remember the PlayStation Phone images that were leaked a couple days ago? Well, a “Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson initially said: ‘The images are definitely fake’ while refusing to offer comment about the existence of the device.”

The device, which shares a similar styling to that of the PSP Go, is loaded with a version of Google’s Android OS, according to Engadget and runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 chip supported by 512MB of RAM.
