Here’s what Blizzard has to say about the Starcraft 2 delays: “the original Starcraft was built on a 2D engine, in spite of the competition having largely switched over to 3D engines. The savings in processing were applied to larger, more epic battles with dozens of units being rendered on the screen at the same time.” Click here for more Starcraft 2 pictures.

The crowded battlefield “captured the gamer’s imagination more” than the barren fields of competing 3D games at the time, and helped cement Starcraft’s place in videogaming culture.

Raynor engages in a gruff one-on-one with Findlay, then starts talking with Matt Horner, a more official-looking Terran who doles out most of the campaign’s mission information

This follow up to the famed StarCraft, sports “custom 3D-graphics engine with realistic physics and the ability to render several large, highly detailed units and massive armies on-screen simultaneously.” Video after the jump. First image in gallery.

Each race will be further distinguished from the others, with several new units and new gameplay mechanics, as well as new abilities for some of the classic StarCraft units that will be making a reappearance in the game
