CeBIT: Sharp's 2-Way Viewing Angle LCD

With a parallax barrier superimposed on a normal TFT-LCD, these Sharp displays can show different information simultaneously depending on the viewing angle. CeBIT attendees got a first hand look at this technology, which was first introduced last year. Video clips after the jump.

practical application- use it in a gps system in a car. the driver will be able to see traffic conditions and the person in the passenger seat can watch a movie.

" I suppose this means if you wanna watch a movie while a gps type thing is going and a movie on the other mside, it must be able to because in the movie it has both sides as different things so it is like running 3 programs at once.

or u can use a 5-10 year old non-active matrix screen that will be black from more than 40 degrees, and it will cost u 1/50th the price

This technology is used to create Auto-Stereo screens, providing depth to your image. Like viewing imax movies, but without the glasses. Projecting one camera angle to your left eye, and one to your right. The technology is more advanced than these basic models, Check out www.inition.co.uk for lots of Stereoscopic solutions

This can be used in Healthcare to protect patient data. I just sent this to our research and development department. This would be a great device for protecting patient data in the area's such as ER.

As the headline says, looking at Sharp’s new LCD from different angles can give you different views. Look at the image below - the view on the left is the same LCD viewed in a mirror. Notice the different image for the different angles. I have no idea how good the view differentiation is, but this is something that would just be cool to have. And being a geek, sometimes really cool is the only reason I need to want something. i work for a company that distribuites these monitors, but more advanced ones, where you get real depth. like the 3d screens wiv the glasses, but without the glasses, really is quality. the applications that this states, is pretty pointless, seriously check out auto-stereo screens at www.inition.co.uk
