G-Speak: Gestural Interface Technology

The G-Speak system basically "consists of an off-the-shelf DLP projector and special gloves embedded with reflective beads." CNN/CBS gives us a closer look at this technology. Watch after the jump.
Infrared cameras are suspended from a truss above the screen and monitor the glove’s reflections in order to track the wearer’s hand movements

I think the camera cost is prohibitive. "Special Infrared Cameras"? Give me a break. Cameras, even high resolution ones, should not cost hundreds of thousands of dollars apiece. Take any given 3Megapixel camera, take off the filter, and you have a infrared capable device.

We did this several years ago for Sandia, and the response was luke warm. Until the software is written that takes advantage of this, you are still stuck with mouse click interfaces. You can see pictures at www.phasespace.com under applications.
