Latest "Zune" Information

Here's the latest scoop on Microsoft's upcoming "iPod-killer" (codenamed "Zune"): it will come in a 30GB model and have the "same pricing, look and feel as the 60GB iPod." Other rumored specs include a 400-MHz processor, Wi-Fi, and a built-in satellite radio tuner (Siruis, XM, etc.). Pricing and availability have not yet been announced. We'll keep you posted as more information becomes available. [via engadget]

I can't believe they are capable of creating such an ugly thing! These people at Microsoft have no sense of Design! Hire Apple to do it for ya! This "Zune" will be a major disaster! Wi-fi? Woooow! ¬¬'

Thats right, a 30GB Microsoft iPod knockoff, all for the price of a 60GB REAL IPOD! Some iPod killer.

It actually looks great! The interface looks very sleek. The satellite radio tuner and wi-fi look promising. I wonder if you will have to pay for a subscription for the satellite radio or if the wi-fi will be for internet browsing? The only problem I can see is the pricing, but I'm sure Microsoft will get that taken care of. Overall, I'd have to say that I'm really looking forward to this player!

Agreed with ygagarin... "it will come in a 30GB model and have the “same pricing, look and feel as the 60GB iPod" If its the same price I rather have and 60Gb Ipod! There must be something wrong with those guys at Microsoft... This was one of the most idiotic things Ive ever heard...

"ugly design" So what??? If they fix the pricing, I bet it will sell! In technology, there is something called just good enough and this fits the bill with a price adjustment.

This thing excites me. A portable media player you can surf the net with, depending on what happens with wifi, could be a major boon. I'm sitting here in traffic in the back of a cab wishing my blackberry had headphones and a screen that could play media. Personally, I was hoping the ipod killer would have a keyboard, wifi, and 80gigs of storage.. One out of three? No sale.

This whole thing reminds me of the very "real" yet sarcastic video spoof on what the iPod packaging would look like if Microsoft redesigned it. Watch it (if you have never seen it) and you will agree that this is not very far from the potential reality to come. While Microsoft is good at what it does, one thing it is not good at is simplicity and style. I hope they surprise us all on this new venture, but I fear the outcome will be more like the video. Hmm... I will have to say that this is am interesting hand that microsoft are playing. As with all their products they'll be expensive but, unlike the fact that you have to buy something like publisher as there's really no other choice, we do here; an ipod. I just don't think they're offering enough to beat it... too little too late, apple have this one wrapped.
