Real-Time Eye Tracking

For those who want to build their own real-time eye tracking system, downoad the open-source code here. Video demonstration after the jump.
The purpose of openEyes is to provide a hardware design and a set of software tools useful for the analysis of eye movement data. The tools available for this platform include algorithms to measure eye movements from digital videos, techniques to calibrate the eye tracking system, and example software to facilitate real-time eye-tracking application development

Thats is very cool, so many different applications. Also could be used to help robotics vision, based on how the human views things etc..

This is pretty incredible. Can you imagine this technology built into a monitor? It wouldn't replace a mouse but you could have active applications that reacted to being looked at. Like looking at the clock and having it spring up a calendar. You look at a day and it "tool tips" the events for that day. Also, with a high resolution camera, you wouldn't need a pan and tilt tracker at your monitor. You'll always be looking at it in some way. There are so many applications for this technology, it's hard to realize them all.
