(Video) Real-World Motion Tracking

"ACCESS" is basically an "art installation where a computer-controlled spotlight would track and follow unsuspecting persons in a public space". Video demonstration after the jump.
It performed rich statistical analysis of optical flow information to robustly track targets in a closed-world environment

Jim, pretty much it could replace the need for manually spotlighting people. Could be used for about anything that requires someone to operate a spotlight. Also it could be used for comedy, as shown in the 2nd video.

As for spotlights in theatre, they already have something similar, but it tracks a radio transmitter planted on the actor to track. This is much more entertaining and ... utilitarian? It's completely automated (or could be) and requires no prep of the targets involved. Absolutely fun to watch. Maybe these should be installed in more places to get people accustomed to being watch by all the law enforcement surveillance cameras.

I agree, With Turboslut. Who was the guy speaking in the second video. I was bothered by him and his...rambling. Fantastic technology. I'm amazed at how the system "locks" onto only 1 person. What data is it using to separate that person? This is obviously not a simply electronic eye which is nonobjective enough for computers to generalize with.
