2026 Nissan Sentra Reveal
Nissan’s Sentra has been around for more than 40 years and has outlived many of its compact sedan competitors. It debuts in 2026 with a clean design and a cabin that feels both new yet old at the same time.

Nissan’s exterior designers took inspiration from the sleek Ariya SUV and gave the Sentra a clean look. The V-motion grille is wide and flows into slim LED headlights that light up with a subtle welcome pattern when you open the car. The sporty SR trim gets 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler and a two-tone roof in fun colors like Energetic Ember or Aspen White.

Under the shiny exterior, the Sentra’s mechanical story is less exciting. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine returns with 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque through an Xtronic CVT. It’s reliable and smooth with a retuned transmission for 2026 that feels more natural under acceleration. A new Sport mode on the SV, SR and SL trims sharpens the throttle and handling, but don’t expect thrills – 0-60 takes 9 seconds or more. Fuel economy estimates are down slightly from last year’s model at 29 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, 33 mpg combined.

Inside, the Sentra feels like it belongs in a higher class. On most trims, a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment display dominates the dashboard and on higher grades, a matching 12.3-inch driver display is included. It’s a clean design that’s twice as bright as the previous model’s screen so you can read it in the sun or at night. Physical buttons for important functions remain, it’s all about functionality over flash and the climate controls are now touch-sensitive for a more streamlined look. The SR trim has red accents and ambient lighting with 64 color options so you can set the mood for a late night drive. The SL grade has quilted synthetic leather seats, a heated steering wheel and a sunroof that opens up the cabin to the sky.

Practicality hasn’t been forgotten, starting with the trunk which is designed for everyday use with a low liftover height so you can load groceries or golf bags with ease. Nissan says it can fit three suitcases and two duffel bags so it’s perfect for airport runs or weekend getaways. The optional Intelligent Key technology opens the doors as you approach and shuts them as you walk away, a small convenience that feels luxurious when you have your hands full. Three USB-C ports keep your devices charged and the SL and SR Premium trims have a wireless phone charger and an eight-speaker Bose audio system that sounds great throughout the cabin.

Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 is standard on all Sentras and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure prevention and high beam assist. Blind Spot Intervention, introduced in 2026, will nudge you back into your lane if you’re about to sideswipe someone. The SL and SR Premium trims get ProPILOT Assist, a semi-autonomous system that controls steering, braking and acceleration in stop-and-go traffic, making daily commutes easier. An Around View Monitor with moving object detection makes parking stress free, especially in city traffic, while ten standard airbags give you peace of mind.

The Sentra’s chassis tells a different story. With 6% more body rigidity the car feels more planted and the upgraded shocks smooth out bumps with surprising ease. The dynamic damper in the steering wheel reduces road vibration and the reduced body apertures reduce cabin noise for a more relaxed driving experience. Rear disc brakes and multi-link rear suspension provide good handling and the Sentra feels more agile than its low engine output suggests. It’s not a sports sedan but it’s composed and comfortable, hits the right balance for daily driving.

Pricing hasn’t been announced but expect the base S trim to start just above the 2025 model’s $22,785 including destination. There are four trims – S, SV, SR and the returning SL – to fit your budget.
