Desktop speakers often sit on your desk, pushing out music while blending in with monitors and keyboards. Edifier’s New Cyber comes on your desk dressed like a tiny gaming rig, complete with illuminated internals and a panel that displays system stats.
Edifier designed the New Cyber around a translucent upper shell that exposes its wiring and components. Power supplies are stacked like circuit boards, with braided wires running through the system in thick loops. Five circles of light pulse and revolve inside, creating a continuous glow that mimics the hum of unseen machinery. Below that display is a fabric-covered base that is pleasant to the touch yet sturdy enough to support the entire sculpture. In aurora white or phantom black, the speaker is around the size of a compact tower case.

Two 52-millimeter-wide drivers handle the mids and highs from that bottom part. A bigger 100-millimeter woofer joins them, accompanied by two passive radiators that add depth to the bass sounds. A 60-watt amplifier powers the system, ensuring that volume fills a room without effort. Connections are straightforward: Bluetooth version 6.0 for wireless connects to phones or tablets, a USB connector that doubles as a sound card for direct computer connections, and an AUX jack for older installations. Sound modes alternate between three basic presets and extras, which may be adjusted with touches on the unit or deeper dives via the Edifier Connect app.
The 2.8-inch screen on top is more than just decorative. When idle, it cycles through static images or mild animations, selecting from an eight-themed backdrop collection. When you connect the speaker to a PC via USB, the display displays real data—CPU strain, GPU draw, and even RAM levels—that matches the machine to which it is connected. When you switch to phone streaming, the words scroll over your face in time to the music.
Lighting enhances the experience, beginning with the five circular elements inside, which offer about 16.8 million shades and are tuned to resemble spinning rotors with smooth, unending motion. Themes vary from quiet pulses to stronger flashes, which are all controlled via the app or on-device controls. Edifier designed the internals to run cool, allowing the lights to stay on without generating additional heat on the surface.
A USB-C and USB-A plug at the back both supply up to 35 watts, enough to charge a phone or earbuds while the speaker performs music tasks. There is no need for adapters; simply plug it in and charge. This dual purpose extends the unit’s life on the desk by transforming a single item into a hub that supports the equipment around it. Cables stay neat thanks to the built-in routing, which mimics the ordered chaos of real PC systems.
For the time being, availability is limited, with Edifier launching the New Cyber in China for 1,499 yuan, which is approximately $210. White and black finishes are shipped ready to use, with an app available for additional control on phones or desktops. The global rollout has not been publicized, although Edifier gear is frequently imported through third-party merchants and arrives in the United States within months.
