Robots that look and move like us are proving their worth on city streets, or at least in Shanghai. AgiBot’s A2 recently made history by walking 65-miles without stopping. This Guinness World Records-certified event took place over three days in November 2025.
On November 10, the A2 started the journey at night from Jinji Lake in Suzhou. The route looped through urban roads, highways and bridges until it ended at Shanghai’s Bund shoreline. By November 13, the robot’s odometer had clocked 106.286 kilometers (65 miles). Officials measured every step to confirm the distance and on November 21, Guinness World Records declared it the “longest journey walked by a humanoid robot”.

The A2, 5’9” tall and 121 pounds, comes off the assembly line like any other. Inside, 28 motors power the joints for smooth human-like movement. A quick-switch battery pack allows operators to swap packs while it was still moving at full speed. Two GPS devices and laser scanners map the area while infrared cameras cut through the darkness to help it navigate. These technologies also enable the A2 to recognize traffic lights, avoid crowds on narrow paths and follow traffic rules.

Night fell twice during the drive and with so little light, making decisions was a gamble. But the robot kept going, crossing provincial lines and evading traffic without incident. Wang Chuang, AgiBot’s senior vice president, was there to witness everything. “Walking from Suzhou to Shanghai is a tough task even for many humans,” he said later.
