When Cyberpunk 2077 meets a dystopian drama, you get Daniel Kaluuya’s ‘The Kitchen’, a Netflix original film that is set to hit the streaming service on January 19, 2024. It is set in London, 2044, where the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits.
This version of London has no social housing, and the working classes have been forced to live in temporary accommodation on the outskirts of the city, called ‘The Kitchen’. It is London’s last village, one that residents refusing to move call home, including Izi, who is desperately trying to find a way out and 12-year-old, Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family.

The Kitchen is helmed by first-time feature director, Kibwe Tavares. Kibwe’s multi-disciplinary work crosses theatre, shorts and architecture. Kibwe was awarded the Sundance Special Jury Award for his animated short Robots of Brixton and was nominated for the Sundance Short Film Grand Jury Prize for Jonah starring Daniel Kaluuya,” said Netflix in a press release.
