Ghost of Yotei’s (PS5) got gamers buzzing, and it’s no surprise why. It’s the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, a 2020 hit that blended samurai action, a stunning open world, and a gripping story.
The main character, Atsu, is a fresh face—a female warrior in 1603 Japan, 300 years after Tsushima’s Jin Sakai. Her familiarity might come from her Ghost mask, tying her to the legend Jin started. She’s on a vengeance quest against the Yotei Six, a gang that killed her family, which screams emotional, personal stakes.

Set in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) around Mount Yotei, the game swaps Tsushima’s beaches for grasslands, snowy tundras, and volcanic landscapes. It’s built from the ground up for PS5, with massive sightlines, auroras, and wind-swayed vegetation that make it a visual feast. Fans may appreciate the wilder, less samurai-ruled frontier packed with dangers like bears and ronin.

Tsushima nailed swordplay and stealth, and Yotei’s adding new mechanics and weapons while keeping the open-world freedom fans loved. Early social media reactions include some saying that this looks “10x more fun” than Tsushima, with a less repetitive world. The vibe’s still Kurosawa-inspired, but with a fresh spin.

Confirmed for release on October 2, 2025, it’s a PS5 exclusive (PC likely later). It’s ranked high on hype lists, with over 2,000 gamers voting it a top 2025 title, second only to GTA VI in some polls. Ex-Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida and CEO Hermen Hulst both called it their most anticipated game, and Yoshida’s been playtesting it for years, saying it “always felt great.”

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes a digital copy of Ghost of Yōtei plus in-game bonuses including The Snake’s armor set, as well as an alternate dye for your starting armor. You’ll also receive a unique horse color and unique saddle dye, plus an in-game Charm, gold Sword Kit, and an early unlock of Traveler’s Maps, which allow you to find statues throughout the world to upgrade your skills,” said Andrew Goldfarb, Senior Communications Manager, Sucker Punch Productions.
