Paramount Pictures and Legendary just put a new trailer in front of audiences today for their live-action Street Fighter movie, and the footage spends most of its time on the old wound between Ryu and Ken Masters. Andrew Koji plays the wandering fighter who once stood as the best in the world before he walked away from combat. Noah Centineo plays Ken, the flashier American who spent years in Ryu’s shadow and now finds himself in real trouble. Callina Liang’s Chun-Li shows up to pull them both into the World Warrior Tournament, arguing that Ken needs his old partner even if the two men can barely look at each other.
Set in 1993, this story follows Ryu and Ken as they become entangled in a violent street fight that hides a much larger conspiracy. Now they must face both each other and the evils they have left behind. Official materials keep it brief, but the message is clear: if they goof up, it’s game over. Kitao Sakurai directs, and he not only co-wrote the script with T.J. Fixman, but he also spent a decade as a beloved fixture on The Eric Andre Show, which gives you an idea of where the film is going: leaning into the game’s utter absurdity rather than turning every Hadouken into a high-stakes drama.

Filming completed in Australia last year, with Legendary and Capcom collaborating to bring the film to reality. Paramount will release it on October 16th, with a duration of just shy of two hours and a rating of PG-13. This is the third live-action Street Fighter adaption, following the 1994 original, which still has a cult following, and the 2009 remake, which no one seemed to love. The early teasers confirmed that the special moves will be on full display, and the latest video show Hirooki Goto’s E. Honda unleashing his own unique Hundred Hand Slap during a wild bathhouse brawl with Ryu.
The cast is impressive (to fans of the game at least), with David Dastmalchian playing M. Bison, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, and Jason Momoa as Blanka. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson plays Balrog, Orville Peck plays Vega, Olivier Richters plays Zangief, Vidyut Jammwal plays Dhalsim, Mel Jarnson plays Cammy, Andrew Schulz plays Dan Hibiki, and Eric Andre portrays the insane ring announcer Don Sauvage, who is just waiting to go off the rails. Rayna Vallandingham and Alexander Volkanovski play Juli and Joe, respectively. Jason Momoa also helped produce the film.
The new footage displays a bit of a split personality, appearing more serious at first then falling into camp and over-the-top mode, where the franchise always feels most at ease. Ken and Ryu are exchanging words about their brotherhood and what happens if they fail, while Ryu discusses the darkness developing within him. It also provides a glimpse at the event in all of its sweaty, kick-filled glory, complete with characters that appear to have stepped right out of an arcade cabinet. In one scene, we catch a peek of Evil Ryu, and fans are whispering about purple eyes. Chun-Li is still attempting to get Ryu back in the ring, since Ken is in a lot of trouble. The event then swings into high gear.
The film’s development was a bit of an adventure. Legendary acquired the rights in 2023, but the Philippou brothers, who were initially attached, eventually bailed. Sakurai took over, and the project moved to Paramount as part of Legendary’s new distribution arrangement, with filming taking place in the second half of 2025.
