HMD Global Nokia 9 PureView

It’s official, HMD Global will release the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone on March 3rd in the US, priced at $599. What sets this handset apart from others announced at Mobile World Congress is its rear penta-camera setup with ZEISS optics. Two of those five shoot RGB, while the others monochrome. How does it work? When you snap a photo, each of the five cameras shoots a different exposure, and then all that information is combined into a final shot, and since each lens automatically adjusts the exposure across the scene—as opposed to single focal point—you’ll get a wide dynamic range, as well as enhanced detail. Plus, you can also shoot RAW images, capture 4K HDR video, and there’s even a 20MP front-facing camera. Read more for another video and additional information.

Gait Recognition System

There’s facial recognition, and now, Watrix Technology’s Gait Recognition System (GRS), which can recognize a person’s walk from their body shape and the angle of arm movement to their posture. Individual traits are recorded in a database that the software then uses when attempting to identify people with a 96% accuracy. “Covering your legs would reduce the recognition score but we analyse all of a person’s body. With facial recognition people need to look into a camera – cooperation is not needed for them to be recognized [by our technology],” said Huang Yongzhen, co-founder and chief executive of Watrix.
