NASA X-Plane

NASA has teamed up with Lockheed Martin to build the X-Plane, a Quiet Supersonic Transport (QueSST) aircraft that will be able to exceed the speed of sound, but without the sonic boom. Once completed, passengers will be able to fly from New York to Paris in just 3.5-hours. “A sonic boom happens because the air doesn’t know the airplane is coming,” said Peter Coen, manager for the Commercial Supersonic Technology Project in NASA’s aeronautics mission directorate. The agency expects the first delivery by the end of 2021. Click here for the first image in today’s viral picture gallery. Tweezers of Legend

Multi-tools are great for your everyday carry, but let’s face it, most are not aesthetically pleasing. “Tweezers of Legend” aims to break that tradition with a sword-shaped design that looks to be straight from a cartoon. They were originally made of stainless steel, but the company now offers it in titanium, as well as in a slew of new designs, like miniature lances and staves. How are they made? Wire electric discharge machining. “In this way wire electric discharge machining can cut metal vertically with high precision. This is the feature that is necessary to increase the accuracy of tweezers. The tip of the tweezers works by matching two flat faces. If there is only a slight distortion on that side, a gap will be formed and you will not be able to grab the thin hair. Tweezers of Legend made with wire electric discharge machining has high precision so that you can grasp the fibers of tissue paper,” said a company representative. Well, it took the company four robots, almost 10,000-pounds of stainless steel, 684-miles of wire, and 6-months of printing. It was designed by Joris Laarman Lab, and measures approximately 41 feet by 20 feet, fabricated from a new kind of steel, as 3D-printing created a ribbed surface since robots added layers upon layers. The bridge will be installed over the Oudezijds Achterburgwal canal in Amsterdam some time in 2019. Click here for the first image in today’s viral picture gallery.
