Drip-Free Wine Bottle

Researchers at Brandeis University have developed the world’s first drip-free wine bottle, and it’s not as complex as you may think. Simply put, the team used a diamond-studded tool to create a circular groove around the neck of the bottle just below the lip. So now instead of overflow dripping down the side of the bottle, it now meets the groove and drops from the bottle, straight into the glass. Sony Xperia X Ultra

Rather than focus on adding cutting edge technology, the Sony Xperia X Ultra is aimed at the multimedia crowd, thanks to its ultra wide 6.45″ display with 21:9 aspect ratio. However, it’s no slouch in other areas either, as the 7.8mm thick handset boasts a 19-megapixel sensor found in the Xperia XZ Premium, complete with laser autofocus. China Tank Snow

Baotou city in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region saw heavy amounts of snow falling, which meant the painstaking task of clearing it away so all its residents can all get on with their daily lives. However, the city has unveiled a new weapon in its snow clearing armory: a tank with caterpillar tracks, bogie wheels, and a huge snow blower where the turret normally is. “A jet engine is added on the tank chassis. Snow is blown away by the hot and high-speed air expelled by the engine”, said the designers at the China North Industries Group Corporation (CNIGC). It can reach speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour on the road, topping out at 48 to 50 kilometers per hour. Click here to view the first image in this week’s geek life gallery. Spinach Leaf Heart

Scientists at at Worcester Polytechnic Institute have successfully managed to grow human heart cells on a scaffolding made from spinach leaf. How? First, they dissolved the leaf’s cellular material using detergents, leaving the cellulose background behind. Once completed, they added human heart cells and got them to adhere to the structure. These cells could still beat the way a normal heart should, while the vasculature could support blood flow. Click here to view the first image in today’s viral picture gallery. Wi-Fi Infinity Mirror Table

Imgur user “SchrompSchromp” has always wanted to build an infinity mirror from scratch, but decided to take things to the next level with this custom table. “The table should also be Wi-Fi controllable and have a USB charger inbuilt for smartphones or a SHIELD controller,” said its creator. Simply put, the entire project cost him just under $1,000, with tools included. Continue reading to see the entire build from start to finish.

USB Microscope

Plugable’s USB Microscope is no toy, as it offers up to 250x magnification, and you can get one for just $29.97, today only, originally $59.99. The microscope includes built-in LEDs that can be dialed through a range of brightness levels to properly illuminate your subject. Unlike many other USB microscopes, these LEDs shine through a diffuser to combat glare. They used a capacitive touch button to initiate image capture rather than a physical push button. When viewing small objects at microscopic levels, the slightest bump can offset an image to an unviewable state. With a capacitive button, the lightest touch snaps a blur-free image. Product page. Alien Actor

For most of the film’s scenes the Alien was portrayed by Bolaji Badejo. A latex costume was specifically made to fit Badejo’s 6-foot-10-inch (208 cm) slender frame, made by taking a full-body plaster cast of him. Badejo attended t’ai chi and mime classes in order to create convincing movements for the Alien. However, in a few scenes, such as when the Alien lowers itself from the ceiling to kill Brett, the creature was portrayed by stuntmen Eddie Powell and Roy Scammell; in that scene a costumed Powell was suspended on wires and then lowered in an unfurling motion. Age Reversing Pill

A group of scientists have developed an age-reversing pill after discovering a key signaling process in DNA repair and cell aging. After human trials are conducted over the next 6-months, NASA wants to give them to astronauts on Mars to protect them from solar radiation. “The cells of the old mice were indistinguishable from the young mice after just one week of treatment. This is the closest we are to a safe and effective anti-ageing drug that’s perhaps only three to five years away from being on the market if the trials go well,” said lead author Professor David Sinclair.
