Martin Jetpack 2015

Martin Jetpack, the world’s first commercially available personal jetpack, will go on sale in 2016, at a cost of around $150,000. It’s been developed over the past 35 years by New Zealander Glenn Martin who unveiled the initial prototype in 2011, which successfully flew at least 1,000 meters off the ground before landing via parachute. The improved version, the P12, was on display at the Paris Air Show in June, along with a simulator allowing the public to experience the Jetpack for themselves. It’s powered by a 200-horsepower V4 petrol engine that drives two ducted fans, enabling it to fly for more than 30-minutes at up to 46mph, and at altitudes up to 1000 meters. Volkswagen Hovercraft

Here’s another look at the Volkswagen Aqua by design student Yuhan Zhang from China. The primary motor unit is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, and used to drive the main fan which then inflates the rubber skirt around the vehicle. When this happens, Aqua is raised just above the ground to provide lift, and its rear fans are powered by individual electric motors to provide forward thrust as well as directional control. Seeing an 18-wheeler on the road is nothing new, but spotting one transporting a tiny toy is definitely something you don’t see everyday. Unless this is a very wealthy person who contracted a trucking company for this prank, it’s probably just the driver heading to pick up their next load, but having some fun along the way, or so we’d like to think. Unfortunately (or fortunately), that is just one of the many images circulating online that make absolutely no sense. Continue reading for more.

Landing on Aircraft Carrier at Night

An aircraft carrier is essentially a warship that serves as a seagoing airbase, equipped with a full-length flight deck and facilities for carrying, arming, deploying, and recovering aircraft. They have evolved from converted cruisers to nuclear-powered warships that carry numerous fighter planes, strike aircraft, helicopters, and other types of aircraft. Sometimes, these aircraft have to make night landings, and these videos will show you exactly how crazy the process is.
