San Giulio Island (above) is an island within Lake Orta in Piedmont, northwestern Italy. The most famous building on the island is the Basilica of Saint Giulio close to which you can see the monumental old Seminary (1840s). Since 1976 it has been transformed into a Benedictine monastery. The little island, just west of the lakeshore village of Orta San Giulio, has very picturesque buildings, and takes its name from a local patron saint (Julius of Novara), who lived in the second half of the 4th century. Getting a tattoo might sound harmless, or at least for those with a decent pain threshold, but seeing the process in super slow motion just might change your mind. Paris-based tattoo artist Guet captured the process in super slow motion with a Phantom HD camera. Modern tattoo machines use electromagnetic coils to move an armature bar up and down. In J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth tales, Helm’s Deep was a large valley in the north-western Ered Nimrais (White Mountains). The valley was described as being blocked over its entire width by the natural series of hills called Helm’s Dike and behind that lay the fortress of Aglarond or the Hornburg, at the entrance to the Glittering Caves. In The Two Towers, the fortress guarding Helm’s Deep becomes the refuge of the main army of the Rohirrim, under King Theoden during the War of the Ring. Ever wonder how a dog raised by cats would act? Well, look no further than Xlinnea’s Tally, who is a mix of husk and malamute. Xlinnea adopted Tally when she was 2-years-old, but her previous owners only had cats around when she was just a puppy.
