Tesla SolarCity Island

Tesla’s SolarCity is now powering the island of Ta’u in American Samoa, which is located 4,000-miles off the west coast of the United States. The microgrid offers 1.4-megawatts of solar generation capacity and 6-megawatt hours of battery storage from 60 Tesla Powerpacks. “I recall a time they weren’t able to get the boat out here for two months. We rely on that boat for everything, including importing diesel for the generators for all of our electricity. Once diesel gets low, we try to save it by using it only for mornings and afternoons. Water systems here also use pumps, everyone in the village uses and depends on that. It’s hard to live not knowing what’s going to happen. I remember growing up using candlelight. And now, in 2016, we were still experiencing the same problems,” said said Keith Ahsoon, a local resident whose family owns one of the food stores on the island. Audio Levitation

Scientists in Tokyo have figured out a way to use acoustic sounds to levitate objects in air. To be more specific, they’re using ultrasonic standing waves – produced by four speakers that surround an open square area approximately 21-inches wide – to trap pieces of wood, metal, and water. These four phased arrays use standing waves to create an ultrasonic focal point in that space, generating a suspending force, thus trapping particles and objects in mid-air, while moved the objects can be accomplished by manipulating the waves. Bento Book Laptop
The problem with most laptops these days is that they become obsolete in 1-2 years, that is unless…you’re talking about Bento Book. This innovative design is completely modular, and consists of a 15.4″ OLED display, tablet, smartphone, a solar-powered lithium ion battery, along with removable SSD storage. Want to use it as a desktop? Simply remove the tablet, prop it up, load up the proper interface, connect via Bluetooth to the main unit, and you’re set to go.

HondaJet

The HondaJet is now the fastest aircraft in its class, setting record times for two recognized routes: Teterboro, New Jersey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2-hours and 51-minutes; and Boston, Massachusetts to Palm Beach, Florida in 2-hours and 58-minutes. It boasts a maximum cruise speed of 422 knots (486 mph) while soaring to a maximum altitude of 43,000 feet, with an NBAA IFR range of 1,223 nautical miles (1,408 miles). “We chose several of the busiest business aviation airports with extremely popular routes to demonstrate that the HondaJet will get customers where they need to be faster than any other light jet. These missions prove just how dramatically HondaJet design innovations like the over-the-wing engine mount increase performance and fuel efficiency over other light jets,” said says Honda Aircraft President and CEO, Michimasa Fujino.
