Whether it be a Palais Garnier Airbnb or just a standard hotel room, the Scout Hidden Camera Detector uses high-powered LEDs that reflects off lenses to seek out hidden surveillance devices in a room including smartphones and CCTV cameras.
Powered by two AA batteries, users simply have to look through Scout’s aperture to check if a pinpoint of bright red light is seen when standing 5-15 feet directly in front of the item you believe may be hiding a camera. An alternative method would be to just use your smartphone’s flashlight function and shine it at any items with holes in them. Should there be any hidden cameras, the lens will give off a bluish reflection.

In a survey of 2,000 Airbnb guests, 58% said they were worried about hidden cameras in their rental. Hidden cameras are a real problem.
