The Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO), officially named Danuri, went into orbit around the Moon on December 16, 2022 and since then, has captured amazing images of craters, peaks, etc. It transmitted these images using an experimental space internet system, along with several video files, including, BTS’ “Dynamite”.

South Korea’s main objectives of this mission are to develop critical technologies for lunar exploration, produce a topographic map for support to select future lunar landing sites, and to survey lunar resources including water ice, uranium, helium-3, silicon, as well as aluminum. All of this data will help the development and validation of new space technologies for the country.

Korea made history as the seventh country in the world to explore the moon. In the next 10 years and by 2032, we will keep strengthening the nation’s space development capacity through various projects including launching of a lunar lander with a homegrown launch vehicle,” said Oh Tae-Seog, First Vice Minister of Science and ICT.
