At $279.99, Microsoft’s 120GB Gears of War 2 Zune features “the full Gears of War 1 soundtrack, nine Gears of War videos (trailers and such), and 244 images such as concept art and photos of people who worked on the game.” Product page. If you’re a Gears fan that’s on the fence about buying a Zune, this is a pretty viable option considering all the GoW extras you get. $279 gets you the 120GB version (which will be outdated in two years when Gears of War 3 debuts).

Zune Gears of War 2 Edition

The above shot is the first hands-on picture of Microsoft’s Zune Gears of War 2 edition. A company representative states that “a serious ‘step up’ in Zune and Xbox 360 integration will happen ‘within a year.'” Click here for pictures of the new Zune originals.

Also on hand were the next round of Zune Originals coming out later this month, the Zodiac series, with Spanish artist Catalina Estrada designing ones around the Western signs, and Iosefatu Sua doing up the Eastern set.

Gears of War 2 Zune

At $288, this special edition Gears of War 2 Zune includes “244 pieces of “Gears of War” media — the soundtrack, concept art, behind-the-scenes vids and so forth, nothing you won’t be able to find elsewhere.” Click here for first picture in gallery.

Microsoft couldn’t let the gory, highly-anticipated launch of Gears of War 2 (chainsaw duels! Rhhhahaararggg!) pass without bloodying a Zune or three in the process, Halo 3-style.

Zune Accessory

Subscribers will particularly benefit from the new Zune Card sharing, which lets you automatically score copies of your pal’s favorite songs, artists and recent plays — non-subscribers can view that Zune Card info, but will have to buy the tracks if they want to have a listen.

For multiplayer wireless gaming on the Zune, look no furthur than XNA Game Studio 2.0. The application “can support ad-hoc wireless play with up to eight players and the ’16MB for storing games’.” Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

Microsoft’s still isn’t solid on a final consumer release date for XNA games for the Zune, but they are aiming for the first CTP (community technology preview) to be released in May.
