Have an Atari Lynx but never heard of Ultravore? That’s because this one-on-one fighting game, first worked on by Beyond Games in the early 1990s, was never released. Songbird Productions got the rights around 2000 and is now bringing it back, adding upgrades like health bars, different damage levels, new graphics, and sound.
Built from the unreleased Ultra Vortex, it includes multiple characters, special moves, layered backgrounds, and Comlynx support for two-player battles. Songbird has the complete source code and assets, which could allow them to add things like music, more fighters, or varied settings.
- Officially Licensed: This is an officially licensed Atari titles, ensuring an authentic gaming experience, includes bonus games.
- Portable Gameplay: Powered by 4 AA batteries (not included) or by a USB-C cable (not included).
- Collector's Item: A must-own for collectors and fans of video games, celebrating Atari's pioneering legacy spanning over 50 years.

Ultravore began as Ultra Vortex (sometimes called Ultra Vortek, linked to the Atari Jaguar version) by Beyond Games in the early 1990s. It was meant to be a one-on-one fighting game for the Lynx but was canceled due to problems like Beyond Games missing deadlines and the Lynx’s fading popularity. Songbird Productions picked up the rights around 2000, and after 25 years, they’re working hard to finish it.

Songbird is thinking about using crowdfunding to make the game bigger, saying extra funding could add more fighters or stages. There’s no set release date yet, with Songbird saying it’ll be “done when it’s done,” showing they’re taking their time to make it high quality.
We’ve already added health bars, variable damage depending on the move, new graphics, and new audio. Other possible features include music, multiple environments, more fighters, etc. More enhancements means a lot more work, so we may look at a crowdfunding option to broaden the scope beyond necessary upgrades. We want to deliver a fantastic fighting game for Lynx fans,” said SongBird Productions.
